CEREC® by Sirona Dental Systems is a system for the fabrication of all ceramic dental restorations in one office visit. At Waterfront Family Dentistry, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic crown, onlay, or veneer! CEREC® has two decades of clinical research and practical experience to support the success of this technology. We are pleased to be the first office in the Winona area to offer this service. For you, the patient, this means fewer injections, less drilling, and less time out of your hectic schedule for dental care.
Many dental restorative methods require more than one visit to the dentist. This means that on the first visit, you get an injection of anesthesia, your tooth prepared, an impression taken, and a temporary restoration put on your tooth. You make a second appointment for a couple of weeks later, get another injection, have the temporary pried off (if it hasn’t fallen off already), and have a permanent restoration put on. With CEREC® at Waterfront Family Dentistry, the procedure is done in a single appointment, start to finish.
What does getting a CEREC® crown involve?
While the tooth is numb, we will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping the tooth surface. We will then apply a reflective powder to the tooth to prepare it for imaging. Next, a 3D image is acquired with a small camera, directly in your mouth. We then design the restoration on the computer and diamond coated instruments mill a ceramic block to reproduce the design. Finally, the new porcelain restoration is polished and bonded in place. Because these Cerec restorations are made of a special ceramic material, they blend very well with your teeth and create a beautiful and extremely strong result. This whole procedure accomplished during a single visit, in about an hour using this amazing CAD/CAM technology.
